Common Fairy Tale Elements

Common Elements of Fairy Tales
1. A fairy tale begins with "Once upon a time..."
2. Fairy tales happen in the long ago.
3. Fairy Tales have fantasy and make believe in them.
4. Fairy Tales have clearly defined Good characters vs. Evil characters.
5. Royalty is usually present in a fairy tale, a beautiful princess/handsome prince.
6. There may be magic with giants, elves, talking animals, witches or fairies. 7. Fairy tales have a problem that needs to be solved.
8. It often takes three tries to solve the problem.
9. Fairy tales have happy endings – "they all lived happily ever after."
10. Fairy tales usually teach a lesson or have a theme.

Now you decide: what makes a fairy tale a fairy tale? What are the characteristics? What do the heroes look like? What does the setting look like, etc?

    A story has:

    1) once upon a time

    2) a prince and a princess

    3) happily ever after

    4) haunted forest and a magical kingdom

    5) evil witch or evil character

    6) a problem

    7) love between 2 characters

    8) the setting is a make belief place

    9) helpers of the good guys

    Fairy tales always talk about true love which pretty much breaks any spell known to man... It always teaches you a lesson about values and morals... STAND UP for what you believe in.

    The heroes are very beautiful or handsome. They are quirky, smart, and brave.

    The setting is a beautiful village or town and sometimes it has royalty in the center of the town.. Or it's the woods.

    What makes a fairytale a fairytale are the characters: royalty, magical animals that speak, the evil family member, etc. The heroes are princes, strong, magestic, rich, handsome, caring, everything a girl would want. The setting tends to be pretty, fields, singing birds, flowers, then there's the cave; the dark place where the evil lives.

    A battle between good and evil involving monsters and magic make a fairy tale a fairy tale. There is always an wise old man who guides the younger main character through his journey. The young main character is also part of a group fighting for the same cause. All of the good characters are good looking, while the evil characters are really ugly. The setting is usually set in the past and there are castles and stuff.

    The villain is always ogre looking. Theres always a fairy godmother. The setting is always in a kingdom far far away.

    1. There is a usuall plot that happens where the good character rises, falls, then rises again.
    2. The good character is usually poor or weak and ends up strong at the end by defeating the powerful bad character.
    3. Fairy tales always have a love story.

    The setting of a fairy tale is always a beautiful setting , filled with endless magical possiblities.

    A fairy tale is made by the characters, the plot and the moral of the story. The heroes are usually the "knight in shining armor". They are always brave and fearless. The setting almost always has the feel of a medieval setting. There are a lot of fairy tales that are based in the woods also.

    The good characters in a fairytale are usually beautiful and the bad characters are usually really ugly. There is always magic. In the end, the bad character is defeated and the good character always wins.

    Fairy Tales usually involve midevil fantasy settings. Their dynamic of characters are either good or evil, there is no in between. The evil characters tend to be evil sorcerers. While the good characters seem to be princes in their effort to rescue a princess. They tend to surpass many obstacles set by the bad guy. In the end they always have a theme to teach a lesson.

    A fairytale consists of a lost or lonely princess and a strong, brave, handsome prince that comes along and saves her. There is usually an animal involved that can speak. The prince and princess always live happily ever after in a village, or town.

    When I read fairy tales I always notice at the beginning of the story it says "One upon a time." Also there's always a beautiful princess and always a handsome prince. And there's always little characters in it such as elves, talking animals, witches or fairies. That is what I think of fairy tales.

    Fairy tales typically have beautiful characters, either the man or woman. There is usually some sort of heartbreak but in the end it is resolved.

    There is always a happy ending. There is always a prince or a princess as the main character. The prince is usually the hero. They all start with "once upon a time" and there are animals that talk and creatures that can also talk.

    There is always a good guy beating the bad guy. The endings are happily ever after or they will lead into a sequel thats happily ever after. The hero and a strong masculine man and always has a girl hes chasing after.

    1) There are always one side that's very evil and one side that's very kind. The conflict will rise between these two sides.
    2) magic and supernatural power will help both sides to gain victory
    3) It's 99% happy ending for the kind side.

    Fairy tales do begin with "Once upon a time" and end with "They lived happily ever after." I don’t believe that fairy tales have to happen long ago, their can be made up fairy tales from not that long ago. I agree that most fairy tales have talking animals, witches or fairies.
